Movie Review : The Sea Beast (2022)
THE SEA BEAST (2022)
Have you ever seen a big monster and there are two humans in front of it? Not yet? Let me introduce it to you. It is called The Sea Beast. The Sea Beast was directed by Chris Williams and co-writer Nell Benjamin and was released on Netflix on June 24, 2022, in theatres and on July 8, 2022. This movie is a Netflix original animated film by directors of Disney’s Moana. This film was nominated for Best Animated Feature at the 95th Academy Awards and 4 awards including Outstanding Visual Effects in an Animated Feature at the 21st Visual Effects Society Awards. It follows much the same thread as How to Train Your Dragon, but it is written in a unique way.
This fantasy epic is about Maisie Bumble, a young British girl of color (voiced by Zaris-Angel Hator), who stows away on a ship to find adventure hunting sea beasts. For a decade, Captain Augustus Crow III (voiced by Jarred Harris) continues the legendary of capturing the sea beasts with a ship called, The Inevitable. Maisie who runs away from her orphan school joins swashbuckler Jacob Holland (voiced by Karl Urban), adopted son by Captain Augustus Crow III to catch and kill the most enormous beast in the ocean. However, Jacob and Maisie are separated from their crew and was brought to the island of the sea beasts. They come to the fact that why they are fighting with the sea beast and how the war started definitely changes everything.
The characters themselves are fun, engaging,
and dynamic. It's very fluid and believable. They have a realistic
reaction that no other animation can do like Jacob and Maisie.
I love how the animated monsters are in there especially the nose of the Red Bluster, I can’t imagine how they can create such remarkable sea monsters. The body language and the expression of how they communicate with a person, or the beast are very lively. The Inevitable ships were designed beautifully, and the scenes underneath the sea and the water graphics are truly masterpieces. Be a monster-hunting film with an anti-violence message, this movie takes storyline risks. I adore this movie including the sea monsters, the pirates stuff the whole is by the ocean or in the ocean. If you’re feeling down, I strongly recommend this movie because it is beautiful, fun, sweet, safe, and cute.
I love this movie because it never
ceases to astonish me, and the computer-generated graphics are superb. There’s
a phrase by Maisie that catch my eye “Maybe you can be a hero but still be
wrong” sometimes, being a hero is all about overcoming cultural standards and
redefining how we do things. And the first step in changing how we do things is
frequently attempting to change how we do things. There’s also Jacob
questioning the book and then there is this line where Maisie says to Jacob
“but the book says otherwise, and it's going to outlast both of us” which is a
good way to pass the knowledge that not everything we read is true and it’s
important for maintaining misgivings towards any new knowledge.
