Music Review : Lily by Alan Walker, Emilie Hollow, and K-391

LILY BY ALAN WALKER, EMILIE HOLLOW, AND K-391

Do you guys realize that each perspective on Alan Walker’s song Lily has a unique interpretation? Let me inform you that Alan Walker is a British-Norwegian music producer also known as DJ Walkzz. He had no intention of making music when he began doing so, he was motivated by a passion that led him to compute graphical design and musical programming. He also teaches himself by watching YouTube tutorials based on a musical production.  He started to act in producing a song on the year 2012 until now. In July 2012, his fans got his back when he began to pursue his music production career and slowly began posting his music to YouTube and SoundCloud. He starts as a bedroom producer but now he is better known as DJ Walkzz before signed a record deal and released his debut single in 2014. Walkers YouTube became the most subscribed channel registered in Norway because it exceedingly roughly 4.5 million subscribers. On January 25, 2020, Walker’s channel had the highest number of views among Norwegian YouTubers with over 7.7 billion views.

Alan Walker has a lot of albums but I’m going to talk about the album of Different World which is the track, Lily. Lily was released as a track in the album of Different World. Different World is the debut studio album by Norwegian record producer Alan Walker. This song was released on December 14 2018 through MER Musikk and Sony Music Entertainment. In my opinion, Lily is about a little girl who is afraid of the world but wants to explore more about the world itself. Lily’s lyrics are about the dangers that a young girl confronts and the rules that her family creates for her to live in a safe place. These kinds of rules and regulations exist to protect women, yet they make it difficult for Lily to escape the protection she received. In this scenario, Lily decided to venture into the woods where the monsters hide but she was scared of what she would find. She didn’t realize that she was unique from the others.

There are also fans who said this song is a historical song because it belongs to the literary genre called “Epika”. It means “telling, explaining” in Greek. The epic may be characterized as a literary genre that relates in verse the historical exploits of real or mythological heroes, the acts of which include a person with superhuman skills and is created in such a manner that it configures the ideal of the human being to be followed. I also found research, that said there’s a possibility Lily is a princess who in psychological terms has fulfilled the basic layer of human needs, such as physical needs, covering the needs for food, drink, fresh air, needs for safety, and needs for love and care. It also can be said that she is a little girl who lives a luxurious life, and has never seen the outside world - unlike other normal children out there.

In summary, it is indeed a good song that has a deep meaning in its lyrics. It is all based on how you comprehend the meaning of the song. This song reminds me that no matter what you do, always stay alert because you never know when anything could happen to you or someone you love. I would definitely recommend this song because it is understandable that the context has been cleverly disguised and is intended to be viewed from many perspectives.
