Movie Review: Avatar (2009)

 AVATAR (2009)

Avatar was directed by James Cameron. He directed box office films such as The Terminator 2: Judgement Day, True Lies, and Titanic. Avatar was released on 10 December 2009 in London and 18 December 2009 in the United States. This movie starred Sam Worthington as Jake Sully and Tommy Sully, Zoe Saldana as Neytiri, and Michelle Rodriguez as Trudy Chacon. This film cost approximately $237 million and it is owned by the 20th Century Fox Company. The duration of the movie was 2 hours and 42 minutes. James Cameron uses factual, scientific information and also created an entire planet with fictional species and nature concepts. Therefore, the avatar became an extremely amazing story. In this science-fiction epic set in an alien world, we can experience how Jake Sully overcomes the battle within himself to do what is right. Jake Sully (ex-marine) was recruited because he’s a genetic match for his dead identical twin who an expensive avatar was created.

This is the part when Jake Sully meets the avatar for the first time.

Pandora is where the avatar lives with the beauty of the landscape, rich variety, and uniqueness of the flora and fauna. In this movie, Pandora is a rich source of mineral earth which is the unobtanium. The rich mineral unobtanium (30 million kilos) is mined by the Resources Development Administration (RDA) on Pandora, a moon in the Alpha Centauri solar system. Pandora's world is created in such a way that everything is real and it really amazed me. This movie is simply like Star Wars (the one in the 70s and 80s) not having many surprises but enchanting us with a very creative world. Other than that, the avatar has become an extreme science-fiction movie with a lot of characters. This is an adventure movie that includes human characters, and the alien race avatars all equally have great characters. Specifically, the avatar must make a bond with the Banshee (Nav’i name’s Ikran) or the Direhorse (Nav’i name’s pa’li). In this movie, the connection between Jake Sully and Toruk Makto (a great leonopteryx) is incredible. Furthermore, the avatar has a specific theory of human persons (constitutionalism), developing a series of thought experiments and researching the phenomenon of ‘spilt brains’. In this movie, instead of a cliché switching body, Jake Sully uses an interesting method to be an avatar.

This is the machine that can switch Jake to Avatar.

the Pandora.

As has been said, this movie has the visual effects team on the movie that outshine themselves. It is such a vibrant colorful movie. The world of pandora is a truly unique and visually luminous place. The “Humanoid” race that inhabits this world is very interesting. The film's utilization of the floating mountain produces stunning visual effects that are authentic and natural. To sum up, this is the best science-fiction movie I have ever watched. The language used and shifts in character were good to follow with the direction of the entire film. I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves science-fiction movies.
